Exterior Lighting Block Diagrams

Safety and Design – supported by a large portfolio of LEDs, LED modules and lasers. From classic static forward lighting and signaling applications like low beam or high beam, turn indicator and tail lights, to today’s dynamic and pixelated dynamic ADB, signaling, ground projection, body and logo lighting.

Exterior Lighting

Exterior lighting is a major automotive application field that covers static and dynamic forward lighting as well as static and dynamic signaling, as well as new applications like ground projection, interactive social displays. Signaling applications also cover new body and logo lighting applications that are especially interesting for battery-electric vehicles, and various kinds of ground projection approaches.

Dynamic Signaling and Car Body Lighting

Light is the new chrome – In addition to classic signaling applications, like turn signals, stop signals or reverse indicators, the abilities of LED-based lighting solutions now enable new light-based vehicle exterior design opportunities. Dynamic signaling functions in today’s vehicles can be realized using a variety of white and color LEDs in combination with a discrete LED driver. In addition, ams OSRAM’s ALIYOS LED-on-foil technology enables new possibilities for vehicle lighting design thanks to its transparency and bendability. In combination with an ALIYOS driver (in development), the ALIYOS LED segments can be accurately controlled using the Open System Protocol (OSP) over an industry-standard UART data bus. The integrated standard OSP interface allows to add OSP lighting products without the need for a local microcontroller, or even arbitrary I²C devices using the I²C bridge function of our OSP LED drivers. The technology behind dynamic signaling can also be used for car body lighting. The design options are described in the following block diagram.
