The OSRAM brand is over 100 years old. The name OSRAM was first registered as a brand in 1906 by the Deutsche Gasglühlicht-Anstalt (Auer-Gesellschaft) for incandescent and arc lamps. The OSRAM company itself was officially founded on July , 1919, through the merger of the lighting businesses of Auergesellschaft, Siemens & Halske, and AEG.
"ams" stood for Austria Mikro Systeme (later known as austriamicrosystems AG). The company started in 1981 as a joint venture between AMI Semiconductor and voestalpine AG, and over time evolved into a global leader in sensor and semiconductor solutions.
After acquiring OSRAM in 2020, the company rebranded as ams OSRAM AG.
Yes, ams OSRAM has a brand licensing program. This program allows 3rd parties to use the OSRAM brand on their product in a dedicated category and territory. Our current partnership network consists of licensees who are using the OSRAM brand and are multiplicators for to the OSRAM brand promise. The OSRAM brand has a history of almost 120 years and stands for quality, reliability, and innovation.
The program is designed to unlock mutual growth by leveraging brand equity, accelerating market access, and enabling cross- and upselling synergies. By aligning with our trusted license partners, we reduce investment risks, optimize resource allocation, and expand our brand presence across diversified channels and geographies.
